Announcing a new article publication for Zoonoses journal which examines the ongoing 2026 Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and outlines key preparedness priorities for China and the global community. The authors emphasize that, unlike previous Ebola outbreaks caused by Zaire ebolavirus, no licensed vaccines or specific therapeutics are currently available for Bundibugyo virus, underscoring the critical importance of surveillance, rapid diagnosis, infection prevention, and international collaboration. The editorial concludes that while the risk of importation to China remains low, proactive preparedness and strengthened global response efforts are essential to prevent further spread.
