Management of Viral Hepatitis in the Post-Omics Era

This special issue promotes the development of new methods for diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of patients with viral hepatitis, explores/validates new markers for antiviral efficacy evaluation with multi-omics technology and shares new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis.

Five different types of hepatitis viruses (HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, and HEV) are recognized as etiologic agents for hepatitis A, B, C, D and E, respectively. Most of them are RNA viruses, expect for HBV (a DNA virus). These hepatitis viruses are different in the transmission routes and high-risk populations. Effective response needs the joint development of clinical and basic research, and at the same time, it needs to carry out tailored intervention for each virus.

Early diagnosis of hepatitis infection and early evaluation of its prognosis are very important for effective treatment and nursing. Due to the lack of awareness of viral hepatitis, people often ignore antiviral treatment, leading to disease progression. Efficient and accurate diagnosis of viral hepatitis is of importance for treatment and evaluation of disease prognosis.
