Although\u00a0<em>Candida albicans<\/em>\u00a0remains the most frequent cause of candidiasis, infections caused by non-<em>albicans Candida<\/em>\u00a0species have been increasingly reported in clinical settings over the past two decades.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, species of the Metschnikowiaceae clade including the \u201csuperbug\u201d\u00a0<em>Candida auris<\/em>\u00a0and other members of the\u00a0<em>Candida haemulonii<\/em>\u00a0species complex have attracted substantial attention for their multidrug resistance and high rates of transmission in clinical settings.
